The Presidents Report October 2021

The year of 2020 is quickly coming to an end.  A year that hit us hard with the COVID -19 Virus, with hundreds of Machinists being furloughed.   Now thousands of our Brothers and Sisters Airline members are being furloughed.

Our government leaders continue to fight along party lines that accomplish nothing, while our Brothers and Sisters continue to suffer in the Pandemic world today.   I believe American people have forgotten that we are Americans first and foremost.  Political associations are second, maybe even should be last.  We should not let politics divide us as Americans, and especially should not divide us as IAM Union Members.  United IAM Union and Non IAM Union Members that are united cannot be defeated.

Your District, with the especially hard work from our Secretary – Treasurer, Rich Nadeau, Jr. and his staff, remains financially sound.   Considering the amount of furloughs, the District must endure, this was no easy task.

We are constantly working with the Carriers to find ways to get our furloughed members back to work.  The Carriers are profitable, even during this Pandemic and we cannot see any reason for having any furloughed members.

With the holiday season coming upon us we know that these are trying times.  Families having to make difficult decisions, such as sending your children to school or educate them virtually, to spend time with your family afar and budgeting your way through the holidays.  Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you, as we also must make these difficult decisions.

You may have heard by now, that General Chairman Jim Davis, has decided to retire at the end of this year.   He has proudly served this District at the Local and District Level for many years. During the next couple of months Brother Jim will be working with all the General Chairmen in making the transitioning of his work as smooth as possible.   He is retiring but not going away, he has conveyed to me that he will continue to support the District and be available when we need to call upon him.  There will be more to come.

We have already begun the process of nominating and electing the Grand Lodge Officers for the next four-year term.  All members will soon be receiving letters letting them know the location where their local lodge will be accepting nominations.  This letter will also have qualifications and instructions on how to nominate by mail.  If there should be any questions, please feel free to reach out to your General Chairman.

The Transportation Conference is scheduled to take place in April of 2021.  There will be more information to follow.  Please watch for this information.

District Lodge 19 Staff wishes you and your family a safe, healthy, and happy Holiday Season.

In Solidarity, and fraternally yours,

Mike Perry
